Join us at the NASFT Fancy Food Show in NYC

I’m heading to the airport right now to travel to New York for the NASFT Fancy Food Show. We’ll be exhibiting in the “New Brands on the Shelf” Pavillion on Level 1 in front of the 4000 aisle. The show is taking place June 27-29 at the Jacob Javits Center in New York City.

I can’t tell you how exciting it is to represent Slatherin’ Sauce® to thousands of people at the biggest specialty food expo in the country. It seems like just yesterday I took the first bottle off the production line. I’ll give a full update on everything that takes place as soon as I get back.

Fire it up and Slather it on!!!!

Slather Brand Foods and Piggly Wiggly partnered up on Saturday to provide a Memorial Day weekend cookout. The Pig’s meat manager and grill master, Chris, fired up his grill and “slathered it on” ribs, chicken, sausage, hamburger, and hot dogs. While Chris was busy flipping and grilling, I was busy talking to customers telling them about the all natural premium ingredients found in Slatherin’ Sauce.

The Pig is planning on hosting another cookout this upcoming weekend.  We will be there again as well selling sauce and giving away our koozies with every purchase. Please come by and see us and pick up some delicious food for your lunch or weekend activity. The Pig is located at 1005 Harborview Road just off the James Island Connector.

Memorial Day Weekend

As Memorial Day Weekend approaches I want to wish everyone a safe and happy holiday. Since many of you will be gathering with family and friends for food and fun, I wanted to share one of my very favorite recipes: The SLATHER BURGER®. Slather Burger® begins  with the your bun of choice. These days many bakeries are making breads without high fructose corn syrup. When this is an option this would certainly be my choice. Now comes  your favorite meat patty. My personal favorite is grass fed beef or bison, but you can use turkey, venison, chicken or a vegetarian meatless patty. Next I add 1-2 slices of crispy applewood bacon. I’m sorry I don’t know what to recommend as a bacon substitute for vegetarians. Next I add a slice of smoked Gouda cheese. You can use other cheeses but the smoked Gouda pairs well with the other  flavors. Next top with caramelized onions. I use  a sweet variety onion. Slice thin and saute in a little olive oil until those sugars are released and that onion turns a nice golden brown. Finish with heaping tablespoons of Slatherin’ Sauce®.

I absolutely guarantee that your family and friends will love this delicious burger!!!!!

Sun News Review

Johanna Wilson at The Sun News in Myrtle Beach gave us a glowing review after we presented at Taste! Gourmet Food Show.

Somehow, Rhea, who said the recipe originated in the kitchen of her mother and grandmother, has mastered a sauce ideal for dipping, grilling and baking whatever suits your fancy.

The certified South Carolina product, which means the S.C. Department of Agriculture recognizes it has being produced with ingredients right here from our fine state, only contains six ingredients: ketchup, honey, pineapple, evaporated cane juice, spices and natural liquid smoke flavor.

This is sauce that will definitely make you lick your fingers. Well, I licked mine.

A Slather Brand Cookout

I invited a ton of friends and family over to the house this past weekend to celebrate the launch of Slatherin’ Sauce® and our upcoming exhibition at Taste! Gourmet Food Show. We all had a great time imbibing, eating and generally slathering it on. Our pitmaster, John, grilled up some mahi mahi, shrimp skewers, bacon-wrapped venison, kielbasa and chicken. Other friends brought some Boston butts, game hen and duck. On the side we indulged in beet salad, quinoa and pimento cheese grits. Continue reading “A Slather Brand Cookout”

Slatherin’ Sauce is here!

Slatherin' Sauce Original Recipe Product ShotSorry for the lack of news for many months, but as you can see by the photo, we finally have a product in hand. Slather Brand Slatherin’ Sauce is ready to take the market by storm.

Our to-do list:

  1. launch website May 12th
  2. exhibit at Taste! Gourmet Food Show in Myrtle Beach, May 14th-16th
  3. hit the road to introduce the product to retailers and customers

It may only look like three steps, but there is a ton of work to be done. However, as busy as we are, we would love to hear from you. Drop us a line at [email protected]

Asparagus Fritter Sticks with Slathernaise

1 cup cold water

2/3 cup yellow cornmeal

½ cup all-purpose flour

1/3 cup cornstarch

1 egg, lightly beaten

1 teaspoon baking powder

½ teaspoon salt

Vegetable oil for deep-fat frying

1 pound green, white, and/or purple asparagus, trimmed

Directions

1. Place an ovenproof dish in oven. Preheat oven to 200 degrees F. For batter, in a large bowl whisk together the water, cornmeal, flour, cornstarch, egg, baking powder, and salt until well combined. Batter will be lumpy.

2. In a large skillet heat about 1 inch of oil to 350 degrees F. Working with 3 or 4 spears at a time, dip asparagus into batter, letting excess batter drip into dish. Carefully slide coated spears into hot oil. Fry for 3 to 4 minutes, depending on thickness of spears, until golden. Remove with tongs. Place on paper towels to drain, then transfer to baking dish in warm oven while frying remaining spears. Serve with Slathernaise for dipping

Slathernaise

Equal parts of your favorite version of Slatherin’ Sauce whisked together with your favorite mayonnaise. We prefer Dukes of course!
