The Slather Brand Story
Early one Sunday morning while musing over ideas and dreams for the future while drinking a cup of coffee, I decided that the time had come for me to pursue a career path that involved my true passion – sharing my love of wholesome, healthy, and delicious food with others.
As a proud native of Johns Island, South Carolina I grew up eating foods that my family raised and grew in our backyard. We raised chickens, pigs and goats, and grew summer and winter vegetables that would feed our family of eight. My passion for cooking began at the age of three when, with supervision of course, I cooked my first meal. My Uncle Willie said it was the best eggs and toast he had ever eaten. I am not sure if it was my cooking or the fact that those delicious eggs had come from our yard and were so rich in nutrients that the yolks were orange, not the pale yellow you find today.
After mastering scrambled eggs, I learned to cook my mother’s down-home Southern recipes. Most of her recipes had been passed from generation to generation, but none were actually written down anywhere. It was the “a pinch of this and a bit of that” cooking method. Later in life, I developed a deep appreciation for gourmet cooking and ethnic foods. My love of entertaining family and friends while delighting their tastebuds resulted in years of being encouraged to market some of my treasured recipes. My passion for food, culinary skill and career background; first as an educator then as a sales executive, has turned my dream into reality. In October 2009 Slather Brand Foods® was officially born.
I began researching and developing a roadmap for entering the specialty food market. My goal was to create a product line made with the same natural ingredients I used in my own kitchen. The Slather Brand Foods’® philosophy is to provide products that we are proud to serve our family, our friends, and just as importantly, our customers. In May of 2010 Slather Brand Foods® launched its flagship product, Slather Brand Slatherin’ Sauce®, Original Recipe. Touted as The Cure for Boring Food®, this gourmet cooking and finishing sauce is a unique blend of all natural ketchup, gobs of natural honey, sweet pineapple, crushed red peppers, garlic, and other spices. It is gluten free and contains no high fructose corn syrup, no artificial sweeteners, no preservatives, and no artificial coloring or flavors. It is a delicious remedy for fowl, pork, beef, game, seafood, and anything else worth eating, even tofu.
In addition to our online store, Slather Brand Foods’® products will soon be appearing in retail stores and specialty markets where premium products are featured.
